"So, he killed more than you first thought?" Tom asked Lydia, leaning against the truck. He pulled Savannah close and wrapped his arms around her.

  "Twice as many," Lydia said.

"At least you get to keep all the stuff," Savannah said.

Bri grinned. "And our Lydia is going to get a true happily ever after."

Savannah pulled away from Tom and hugged Lydia. "I'm so happy for you. Wanna join us for drinks later? We can take you out for dinner. Bring Toby. It would be great for all six of us to hang out."

"Can we make it a rain check?" Lydia asked. "That sounds wonderful, but after we get some of my stuff unpacked, Toby's going to take me to his ranch to ride horses. Then we're going to get his prize horse, Flash, ready for another show."

"Aww," Bri gushed. "I'm so happy for you."

"Me, too," Savannah said. "You better not forget about us."

"How could I?" Lydia asked. "Group hug."

They all hugged, and then Bri dragged Lydia to the front of the truck. "Better not leave that cute cowboy waiting."

  About

One wrong decision will haunt her forever.

Macy Mercer only wants a little independence. Eager to prove herself grown up, she goes to a dark, secluded park. She's supposed to meet the boy of her dreams who she met online. But the cute fifteen year old was a fantasy, his pictures fake. She finds herself face to face with Chester Woodran, a man capable of murder.

Distraught over his own missing daughter, Chester insists that Macy replace his lost girl. He locks Macy up, withholds food, and roughs her up, demanding that she call him dad. Under duress from his constant threats and mind games, her hold on reality starts to slip. Clinging to her memories is the only way of holding onto her true identity, not believing that she is Chester's daughter. Otherwise she may never see her family again.

  Preview of Gone

Sitting in his warm truck across from the park, Chester Woodran watched her walk across the open field. An overhead light turned on as she passed under it in the dusk. Her long, dark hair swished back and forth behind her. She wandered around the playground, walking between the climbers and slides until she stopped in front of the swings.

He had spent hours watching her. Studying her. He knew her almost better than she knew herself.

The moment of truth would arrive soon. She'd come a few minutes early, but he wouldn't deviate from the schedule. He would act exactly on time. He'd laid the groundwork. He wasn't going to let her change a thing.

Chester pulled out his phone and scrolled through the pictures, stopping at his favorite. It was the girl in the park for sure, although he couldn't see the details of her face up close yet. He would have to wait a few minutes.

From the phone, her light brown eyes shone at him. Her shy, almost insecure face smiled sweetly.

His heart sped up at the thought of many weeks of work coming together at long last. The waiting was about to end.

Clenching the steering wheel with all his might, he took several deep breaths to calm himself. Every precaution had been taken. Prepared with painstaking care. There was no chance of anything going wrong so long as he stayed with the plan.

The alarm on his digital wristwatch beeped. He turned it off and then leaned back into the seat, adjusting his over-sized glasses.

  It was time.

  Preview of No Return

Rusty reached for the doorbell, but stopped when he heard a commotion across the street. He backed up and glanced down a couple houses. A lady stood with her arms folded, staring at two other ladies storming off.

He went to the sidewalk. "Is everything okay?"

The lady turned to him and shook her head. "Never cross the Calloways."

  Rusty tilted his head. "Who?"

She threw her arms in the air. "Be glad you don't know." She climbed into a car and sped off, peeling the tires.

"Okay…" Rusty went back to his sister's door.

Yelling sounded from inside. It sounded like his brother-in-law. Rusty recognized his voice from the phone. His stomach twisted in knots. Maybe this trip was a bad idea. He rang the doorbell, anyway.

  Author's Note

Thanks so much for reading Dean's List. This was a fun book to write since I was able to revisit some of the characters from Gone. Lydia is one that grew on me the more that I wrote her in Gone as she grew to show her deeper sides. I really enjoyed getting to know her better through this story.

That's one of the reasons I really like writing side stories in a series. And if you like them as much as I do, you'll be excited to know that Rusty now has a novel (No Return) and Alex will have his own series beginning in early 2017.

Do you have a favorite character that you would like to see get a book of his or her own? Let me know! Contact me and tell me who you'd like to see. Luke will likely have a strong place in one of the Alex Mercer books—he's one that many readers have asked for!

If you enjoyed this book, please consider leaving a review wherever you purchased it. Not only will your review help me to better understand what you like—so I can give you more of it!—but it will also help other readers find my work. Reviews can be short—just share your honest thoughts. That's it.
